In Matthew 6:6 Jesus says, “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” At Acts Church, we believe that the most important thing you can do with your life is meet with Jesus daily. There is no other action that is as powerful as spending time with the Lord in prayer, worship, and the word.
Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 says to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Discipleship, simply put, is partnering with God and with others to see the Kingdom expand. As believers, we all have much to learn from someone who is further along in the faith then we are. Discipleship is an opportunity to do this. Not only do we need to be in discipleship, we need to disciple others. This is the means by which the army of God is raised up!
The first two verbs Jesus uses in the Great Commission are go and make. As Christians we are called to go and make disciples of all the nations. This is evangelism. In order to disciple or be discipled, the hearing of the Gospel must take place first. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” At Acts Church, we practice this by sharing the Gospel with people at the work place, at restaurants, and at the grocery store. Evangelism is not a ministry, it's a way of life!
The Bible tells us in James 5:16 that we should “confess our sins to one another, and pray for one another so that [we] may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” As Christians, we are called to confess our sins one to another. In other words we are called to bring our sin into the light, and the promise is that we will be healed! Living a life of transparency fosters community and cultivates a culture of freedom.
